In 2016, Lisa Herzog got together five friends over a pitcher of beer and an idea - to bring young people home to the Democratic Party. From that conversation, the Thurston County Young Democrats relaunched, advancing progressive change across Thurston County.
In 2017, Chair Kento Azegami of Olympia led TCYD to become a force in Thurston County politics. Beginning with hosting the Young Democrats of Washington 2017 State Convention in Olympia, TCYD went on to send the plurality of Washington's delegation to the Young Democrats of America 2017 National Convention. TCYD ended the year with decisive action for Lisa Parsley's successful campaign for the Olympia City Council, delivering her the largest margin of victory in a competitive race that year.
In 2018, led by Chair Veronica Whitcher of Lacey, TCYD organized the field operations for the Home Fund, a successful ballot initiative to build permanent supportive housing through a modest sales tax increase. Through TCYD's efforts, the Home Fund passed with over 60% of voters approving this important initiative.
TCYD continues to take action and create change across Thurston County.
